The Dime Bag 2017 Rap Up

The Dime Bag 2017 Rap Up

Here we are, it’s News Years Eve and it’s time to reflect on the past year. Personally, I think 2017 was huge for Hip Hop. We were gifted albums from our biggest stars and a ton of great projects from lesser known artists dropped as well. The true Hip Hop brand seems to be alive and safe. I honestly feel that lyrics and creativity are making their way back to the forefront. Veteran artists like the Wu-Tang Clan, Royce Da 5’9″, Apathy & O.C., Apollo Brown & Planet Asia, Kool G Rap, The Perceptionists (Mr. Lif & Akrobatik), Sean Price (R.I.P.), and Statik Selektah continued to add to their legacy with some amazing projects this year. The new class of GxFR (Westside Gunn, Conway & Benny), Rapsody, Meyhem Lauren, Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli, and Roc Marciano made sure the tradition of creating quality Hip Hop was maintained and respected in 2017. Rookies like Crimeapple and Recognize Ali prove our future is in good hands and that Hip Hop music continues to transcend boundaries.

These 25 tracks represent what we do here at This is pure, hardcore, slap-your-momma Boom Bap Hip Hop. There are 20 selections with 5 honorable mentions. All of these songs have been featured in our weekly top 10 list called The Dime Bag. So yes, there may have been bigger singles from some of these artists but consider this like the “Fat Tape” feature in The Source magazine. These are the joints you really want to check for. I considered the popularity and statistics of the tracks when choosing them. If you responded well as an audience to a post then chances are you’ll be familiar with the ones chosen. A couple are personal favorites (I can do that, my name is at the top). I usually only pick about 15 or 20 but there were just too many bangers this year. I still had to cut this down from about 50. Congrats to the artists and producers that have made this list and thank you for your contribution to our culture.

Real quick, our facebook page titled “Dotgotit Blogspot” will be deleted on January 1st. If you would like to stay up to date on the latest Hip Hop singles, videos, mixtapes, instrumentals, etc. be sure to hit the “like” button on our business page here.

Lastly, thank you for rocking with us another year, our 10th anniversary year. No, we didn’t get our anniversary mixtape done but fortunately we were busy living amazing lives filled with love and family. I got married and I’m one semester away from graduating with 2 degrees. Clubba works his ass off and continues to set an example as an outstanding father. We do this on the side and we do it well. We do it from our hearts. Hip Hop motivates us. We know you’re the same person. Thank you for allowing us to provide the soundtrack to your lives. Here’s to 2017!
